Lecture hall RW1 is located in the building of the Faculty of Law, Business, and Economics, which was constructed in 1992. After more than three decades of intensive use, it is in need of renovation and modernization. With around 1,000 seats, RW1 is the largest lecture hall at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and is used by numerous faculties for various events – from large lectures to university-wide events.

The renovation planning focuses in particular on the following key priorities: Renewal of the flooring, improvement of structural fire protection, modernization of the lighting, replacement of the access doors, upgrading of media technology, and the creation of contemporary accessibility standards.

These measures will adapt lecture hall RW1 to current requirements in terms of functionality, technology and design. The aim is to create optimal teaching and course conditions and to ensure the long-term usability of the largest lecture hall on campus.
